Warmly welcome to the gala concert which will be presented in the sports hall of The Alojzij Šuštar Primary School in St. Stanislav’s Institution /Štula 23, Ljubljana/ on 4th February 2019 commencing at 7.00 pm. The concert will feature St. Stanislav Girls’ Choir of The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium, its conductor Helena Fojkar Zupančič and some prominent guests: Marta Močnik Pirc, Ana Benedik, Manca Malovrh, Tine Bec, Tilen Lotrič along with the orchestra Simfonija 23 under the baton of Jera Petriček Hrastnik and assisstant Matija Krečič .

This a fundraising concert in aid of St. Stanislav Girls’ Choir of The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium, who is to perform at the 2019 America Choral Directors Association National Conference in February 2019 in Kansas City, Missuri, USA. This event brings together choirs, choral musicians, composers and publishers form the entire world. St. Stanislav Girls’ Choir is the only European choir to perform there, along with 50+ choirs from the US, 4 honor choirs and 11 iconic conductors.

Each year the entire school community celebrates St. Stanislav’s Day to mark the feast of the Institution’s patron.  This year is in particular solemn, as we mark the 25^th anniversary of the reestablishment of The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium and The Jeglič Student Home as well as the 10^th anniversary of The Alojzij Šuštar Primary School.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to this year’s celebration which will be marked with holy mass and a solemn celebration on Tuesday 13th November 2018. Holy mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. in the parish church of St. Vitus in Ljubljana Šentvid by the Archbishop of Ljubljana Msgr. Stanislav Zore. The solemn celebration will take place at 5 p. m. in the sports hall of the Alojzij Šuštar Primary School. Mr. Gregor Čušin, theatre actor, will hold the official speech. The performance will be given by the students of all schools in St. Stanislav’s Institution.

St Stanislav’s Institution in joint cooperation with The Institute for Education Research and Development organised an International Symposium entitled Critical Thinking in the Digital Age took place from 10th – 12th May 2018 in St. Stanislav’s Institution. The event was one of the many to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium and The Jeglič Student Home and 10th anniversary of The Alojzij Šuštar Primary School. The topic of the symposium combined two major focuses the school community had recognised as crucial elements that decidedly shaped the mindset of the young today, namely critical thinking and the influence of digital media upon students’ perception of life. The programme placed special emphasis on school environment in the digital age and the challenges it offers. Cordially invited to the traditional, jubilee concert, which will take place on Sunday, 13th May 2018 at 6.00 p.m. in Gallus Hall in Cankarjev dom (Ljubljana). The choir pyramid of St. Stanislav’s Institution, which is well known in Slovenia and abroad, will perform a variety of songs and compositions ranging from Slovene folk songs to ever green pop songs in new adaptations by T. Bec and D. Močnik. The magnificent Anton Bruckner’s Te Deum performed by 350 singers and the string orchestra, will round up the solemn concert.

We are happy to announce the spring exchange with 22 students accompanied by two teachers from Saumur, France. It will take place form 6th-9th April 2018, with water (l’eau) as the fil rouge of the meeting. Naturally, this would not be possible without visiting Lake Bled, The Ljubljanica river and some other points of interest related to water tourism. French students will be accommodated with the Slovene families.

The exchanges between both schools has now been going on successfully for more than 15 years. Being an active member of Institution Saint Louis is especially appreciated by The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium graduates who have the opportunity for a few-month stay at school, thus gaining a first-hand insight into French school environment.

As usual, the aim of the exchange is to discover local ways of life, language, culture and, last but not least, to hang out with French peers and promote friendship among nations. For the second time in a row The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium will take part in a English language competition Best in English. Students will have a unique opportunity to challenge their English language skills in an international competition, which will take place on 30th November, 2017.

The Best In English contest is a unique worldwide English language competition for high school students aged between 15 and 19.The level of the test is B1 – C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. So far 15 107 students from almost 683 schools from 28 countries have taken part. Our students proved last year they are really good at English – we look  forward with eager anticipation to the competition to come. /Tatjana Jarc/

This year the celebration will focus on the art of sports, which apart from Grammata and Music, was also at the heart of the curriculum of ancient schools. The course of physical education was when children practiced wrestling, jumping, running and throwing of discus and javelin. They also played team games such as early forms of field hockey and soccer. This was to make their body strong and their mind courageous. The performance will be given by children and students of all schools in St. Stanislav’s Institution.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of St. Stanislav Gilrs’ Choir of the diocesan Classical Gymnasium we have the pleasure of inviting you to the concert given on 26 October 2017 at 7.30 pm in Slovenian Philcharmonic, Ljubljana.

This will be a lovely occassion to celebrate the utmost artistic year, when the choir performed at the 11th World Symposium on Choral Music in Barcelona – as the first Slovene Choir ever to participate in such an event. This is also the occasion of the choir’s release of their new CD entitled Jerusalem, which contains Slovene folk songs, commissioned novelties written on the occasion of the above mentioned world symposium and some other pieces. We will be honoured by your presence. It will be all about sharing our true selves, so you need to be there.

26th September 2017 marks the 16th anniversary of the European Day of Languages. The aims of the event as declared by the Council of Europe are to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding, to encourage lifelong language learning and to promote Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity. Thanks to cultural institutes such as the Goethe Institut, the Institut Français and the British Council, the European Day of languages is nowadays widely celebrated especially in schools.

St. Stanislav’s Institution is no exception. The event took place already for the tenth year in a row. Back then, it had all started with Diocesan Classical Gymnasium students presenting basic language skills to pupils of the Alojzij Šuštar Primary School in seven different languages taught at the DCG. This meant using English, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Latin and classical Greek. In the following years, teachers of foreign languages at the DCG devised riddles and other challenging tasks in the above mentioned languages through which students displayed their knowledge of the language as well as culture, history and geography of the respected country.

This year students had to define the origin of photographs presenting highlights from different European countries. Thus, we were trying to promote the practical aspect of this year’s motto at St. Stanislav’s Institution, which is Where are you going? Students with most correct answers received a practical award. We are still also looking forward to a short video clip by students presenting goings-on on the European Day of Languages at the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium. /Lily Schweiger Kotar/
