Diocesan Classical Gymnasium

Dear visitors,

The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium is a private, Catholic gymnasium. It has served throughout the century an important cultural, religious and national mission. We believe that the time our students spend with us is a precious opportunity for their personal growth and our duty is to assist them in preparing for successful lives beyond school, to educate them in wisdom and virtues.

Since renovation in 1993 we have made contacts with similarly oriented schools all over Europe, first with the one from Leverkusen, Germany, then with the one from Utrecht, the Netherlands, today we cooperate with 35 schools from 20 European countries. We have approached each of these schools with great respect and wish to learn from them. This is the most precious experience we have had so far, namely, how profitable and necessary it is to learn from other people. With some schools we have made such close contacts that we organize numerous exchange programs forour students, teachers, artistic and sports groups.

We cooperate with many schools in theframework of Comenius projects. The DCG was in this respect the first school in Slovenia who participated inthe Socrates program many years before Slovenia became the official partner of this program.

The DCG is particularly known for its endeavoursin music, especially in choir singing. The school with around 700 students has five choirs, a big band and numerous chamber singing and instrumental groups. Our students like to participate in arts classes, in drama clubs and different sports.

These are all fields of our endeavours where we look forward to cooperation with every school interested in it. This website, prepared in English especially for you, should serve this purpose.

Last but not least, the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium is situated in an inspiring surrounding amidst mountains and hills in the suburbs of Ljubljana, easily accessible by car, close to the highway from Jesenice or Celovec (Klagenfurt), Austria.

Kindest regards and welcome!

Jože Mlakar
The Headmaster
